Rund um den Harpelstein - Hikingtrail on the Moselle

A beautiful round walk through the forest near Neumagen-Dhron. Almost exclusively on forest paths and along the course of the Dhorn river, magnificent views await hikers.

On lonely paths and along idyllic river courses you will go around the Harpelstein. The rock in question is the eponym of this hiking tour and is now a protected area.Insights into the hiking tour:In the Dhron Valley, where the two Hunsrück streams "Kleine" and "Große Dhorn" flow together, the circular hike around the Harpelstein begins. On forest and meadow paths, the hiking trail leads past sequoia trees, the Heusprungbach, a quarry, the Hunsrück community of Horath. Characteristic for the tour are peace, silence and beautiful views.It is recommended to hike the tour against the clockwise direction. Thus the ascent on the forest path to the village of Horath, 5 1/2 kilometres away, is always moderate. Refreshment stops can be made in Horath, which is reached about halfway along the route. During the hike there are also various resting places where you can enjoy the view and the food you have brought with you can be distorted.

Papiermühle, a district of Neumagen-Dhron, is located only a few kilometres away from the Moselle valley. Here in the Dhron valley, where the Kleine and Große Dhron - two Hunsrück streams - flow together, you start the hike "Around the Harpelstein" at the end of the Harpelstein road in a right turn. Because it is recommended to hike the tour against the clockwise direction. Thus, the ascent on the forest path to the village of Horath, 5 1/2 kilometres away, is always moderate. You will pass some sequoia trees, the Heusprungbach, a small quarry (where the wood for the STELLA Noviomagi was cut) and the branch to the dream loop "Dhrontal-Wackentour". In Horath, take the first possible left turn into Schulstraße and Königsgartenstraße. Already you leave the village along meadows. At the edge of the forest at the height of a hut there is the possibility to make a detour to the family hotel Haus Hochwald and stop for a bite to eat. Otherwise you will pass another branch of the dream loop and hike uphill into the forest. The way back leads you exclusively through forest. Shortly before Papiermühle there is a resting place at the Veltenbach.
