Tiefenbach-Tour at the Moselhunsrück near Longkamp

Hiking is done on farm and forest paths, later in Tiefenbachtal.
The Tiefenbach Valley is one of the most charming side valleys of the Moselle. From Longkamp in Hunsrück to Bernkastel-Kues on the Moselle, the Tiefenbach has carved its way through the steep rock. Near-natural deciduous forest communities such as dry oak and canyon forests give the Tiefenbach Valley a wild and romantic character. Along avenues of fruit trees, accompanied by beautiful views of Longkamp, Kommen and the Moselle valley towards Monzelfeld. Then follows a section through woods and meadows, which finally leads back to the starting point in Longkamp. There are no stops along the way, but numerous benches and rest areas along the way.

Directions
The Tiefenbach tour starts at the St. Andreas fountain in the centre of the village. The route takes you along the Schulstraße to the elementary school, where you turn left to Bürgerpark, which with its old trees and shady seating offers the ideal ambience to fortify yourself for the upcoming hiking tour. After crossing the park, turn left at the bus stop into Bernkasteler Straße and after 100 metres on the hill turn right into the street "Am Hambuch". On the outskirts of the village the hiking trail leads into a field path.  Follow the field path in a straight line for about 1.5 km before the path turns into a meadow path. With the construction site of the B50 in view, turn left and you will reach an asphalt farm track. Here you turn right and pass the bridge, which leads over the B50. Along woods and fields as well as an avenue of fruit trees you walk about 2 kilometres in the direction of Monzelfeld. On the way you will have views of the communities of Longkamp and Kommen as well as of the distant Moselle valley. At a resting place with a view of Monzelfeld, you leave the asphalted farm track and turn right towards the Tiefenbach valley. Passing a Christmas tree plantation, the route takes you downhill. First through the forest, then along a meadow path. Then you reach the B50, which leads from Bernkastel to Longkamp. Along the protective barrier, where you have to be careful of approaching vehicles, you follow a farm track after a few metres, which leads to the fish ponds of the Bernkasteler Angelverein. A gentle but steady ascent of about 2.2 kilometres takes you alternately through woodland and meadows to the asphalt farm track, which you already know from the way there. It leads you left back to Longkamp. Cross the bridge over the B50 again and take a last rest under birch trees shortly afterwards. From here, the path runs downhill through a sunken path - past the old waterworks from 1909 - to the chapel at the entrance to Longkamp. Here you cross the road and walk past the town hall of the municipality back to the starting point at the village well.
